In genetics, linkage refers to the tendency of genes located close to each other on the same chromosome to be inherited together. When crossing over occurs, some new combinations of alleles (recombinants) may appear, but they are usually fewer in number than the parental types. However, in the case of complete linkage, there is no crossing over between the linked genes. As a result, only the parental combinations are passed on to the next generation, and recombinants do not appear at all. Hence, in the generation with complete linkage, only parental types will be obtained.
